Two former Prime Ministers to be awarded the country’s highest honor

Kamla Indepen 2012Former Prime Minister’s Patrick Manning and Basdeo Panday are now in line to receive the nation’s highest awards.

This was announced last evening by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

The former leaders will receive the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on Independence Day, August 31st at the annual National Awards ceremony.
The Prime Minister made the statement during an independence reception held at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s.

T&T celebrates 52 years of Independence this year. Former Prime Minister, Patrick Manning who is the current MP for San Fernando East, was the fourth prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, from December 17, 1991, to November 9, 1995, and then again from December 24, 2001, to May 26, 2010.

Basdeo Panday meanwhile, was the fifth prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, from November 10, 1995, to December 23, 2001.
