The ongoing unease in Trinidad and Tobago has been met with fresh comments by at least one political candidate, former footballer, David Nakhid who, in a statement said in part, “For now the TTPS is the enemy but the memory of justice is long and unforgiving.” That sentiment has been deemed irresponsible by Trinidad and Tobago’s Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith.
In a statement of his own, Commissioner Griffith noted that David Nakhid is a candidate for a political party, who if successful, can become a Minister and a possible member of the National Security Council which oversees the policies of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). He said the words used by Mr. Nakhid were irresponsible.
The Commissioner of Police said such comments from a person who ascribes to become a Minister of Government, is alarming. Commissioner Griffith said he expects leaders of political parties not to condone such behaviour from persons who aspire to be in Government by making such comments about the TTPS in times such as these.
