UNION AND CITY CORPORATION HOLD DISCUSSIONS ON OVERTIME CONTROVERSY

The Amalgamated Workers Union and the management of the Port of Spain (POS) City Corporations are currently locked in discussion on the organizations decision to hire contract employees to do the job of permanent staff.

The corporation’s management took the to decision outsource labor claiming  the over-time payments to union members were becoming unsustainable.

Second Vice President of the Amalgamated Workers Trade, Michael Prentice, says the corporation is breaching an arrangement between the union the corporation.

Mr. Prentice states even a meeting was scheduled to take place to discuss the matter representatives of the council have been breeching several directive and discussions.

The meeting which began at 10:30 this morning and includes the Corporation’s Chief Executive Office, Winifred David,  the City Engineer and an advisor to the corporation.
