Be realistic about demands for better wages is the advice the San Fernando Business Association is sending to trade unions.

At Labour Day celebrations in Fyzabad on Sunday trade union leaders warned workers will resort to a general strike soon if their demands for better terms and conditions are not met.

Among their demands is the removal of the five percent wage cap in wage negotiations, the reinstatement of workers who have been displaced through no fault of their own, putting labour legislation high on the agenda and the immediate removal of the inter-ministerial committee.

In a News Power Authority interview this afternoon, President of the San Fernando Business Association, Daphne Bartlett, said both sides need to be responsible and mature in tackling the challenges faced.

She insisted failure to adopt a responsible approach could lead to serious implications for citizens and the country.
