UWI ELECTION BACCHANAL CONTINUES

NEWS GRAPHIC 6Tensions are still high at the University of the West Indies following student Guild elections held at the St Augustine Campus.

The elections held on Thursday 3rd April, were filled with irregularities which caused the process to be stalled.

Public Relations Officer of the UWI Off-Campus Students Movement, Kedel Boodram says he is unhappy with the flawed process which now places a cloud of suspicion over the integrity of the institution.

Mr. Boodram is now calling upon the University Administration void this election and host new election conducted in a manner to uphold democratic principles and the rule of law.

He says the University should carry on their activities in a professional manner and allowing ineligible candidates to participate in an election brings the institution into disrepute.

He adds all candidates must be financially cleared.
