The University of the West Indies Students Guild supports plans to restructure the Government Assistance Tuition Programme or GATE.
Government maintains GATE must be closely monitored to ensure value for money.
It adds that the venture must also fall in line with government’s development goals.
UWI Student Guild President, MaKesi Peters, in a News Power Now interview this afternoon admitted that ensuring accountability in such a costly initiative is critical.
However, Mr. Peters noted that there are students who have expressed concern over the future of GATE amid the current economic challenges facing the nation.
