Venezuelans residing and visiting Trinidad and Tobago are today calling for justice after they claim they were abused and treated in an inhumane manner by police officers, while on Ariapita Avenue, on the weekend.
The group of Venezuelan nationals protested outside of the United Nations head office along Chancery Lane in Port-of-Spain, this morning.
Activist Yaseina Gonzales who is seemingly steering the Venezuelans’ defense alleged that the officers abused their power and adds that the authorities are targeting all Venezuelan nationals including those who are legitimately residing in Trinidad and Tobago.
She noted that many of the Venezuelans in T&T have obtained UN Refugee status and should not be treated like criminals and held like hostages.
Gonzales is urging the authorities and citizens to be more compassionate.
