Veteran Journalist, Deborah John Has Died After Battle with Cancer

The media fraternity today mourns the death of another media stalwart. The death of former Trinidad Express Publications Editor- News and Features, has proven a tough one to swallow for many. Following a battle with cancer, John, the daughter of  the late veteran journalist, George John, died at the age 61 on Wednesday at 11pm.

John had been on sick leave as she underwent treatment for cancer and would often scoff at the healthcare circumstances faced in the public healthcare system here in Trinidad. Her social media posts reflected her love of words and this will certainly be missed, by many.

The senior journalist’s passing was confirmed by her daughter Nadia. She wrote:


“The family of Deborah John, Journalist and Publications/Features Editor of the Trinidad Express Newspapers wishes to announce her passing on August 23rd 2017 after a battle with cancer.

Deborah leaves to mourn her daughter Nadia, and brothers Anthony and Gregory, sisters in law Paula and Lydia and family and friends.

Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly. The John family thanks everyone for their support during this difficult time”.


On his Facebook page, former Trinidad Guardian Features editor, Peter Ray Blood, wrote:

Today I say farewell to a friend, confidante, sister, homey, work colleague and it ent easy. Goodbye Deborah John. RIP.
