On Monday July 29th, Mr. Warner, the Interim Leader of the Independent Liberal Party defeated four other candidates in the hotly contested Chaguanas West bye election.
He received over 12,000 votes, while his nearest competitor from the United National Congress, Khadijah Ameen could only muster just over 5000.
Warner had reigned as a Member of Parliament following a CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Associations of Football) report which alleged that he corruptly used the funds of the association for his own personal gain.
Speaking at a news conference held at Balisier House on Tuesday, Dr. Rowley said that the result of the election did not change anything as it relates to allegations of fraud levelled against Mr. Warner.
He said that the results of Monday’s election could have a major impact on Trinidad and Tobago’s reputation internationally.
He added that the People’s National Movement would resist any attempts by Jack Warner to become Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
