WASA officials explained that on Saturday evening a transformer at the North Oropouche Water Treatment Plant was damaged after a snake crawled upon a transformer- a situation that led to a fire.
A shutdown of the plant subsequently resulted, and many customers from Five Rivers, Arouca to Sangre-Grande in East Trinidad have since been affected.
WASA’S Director of Customer Care, Doodnath Bhola, in a News Power Now interview this afternoon said progress is being made relative to efforts in correcting the problem.
Mr. Bhola said the utility has been providing key institutions with a truck borne supply of water.
The WASA official also indicated that measures have been taken to avoid a reoccurrence of the problem.
