Citizens of this country are this evening being given the reassurance that the national security services have increased patrols by police officers while defense force staff have been deployed.
The revelation comes on the heels of an attempted prison break this morning by three prisoners- Christopher Selby, Hassan Atwell and Allan Martin, otherwise known as Scanny.
In a shoot out with national security officials at the Port-of- Spain General Hospital, one of the men, Allan Martin was killed. Police Constable, Sherman Maynard was also shot and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police service says the other men Christopher Selby and Hassan Attwell, remain at large and are calling on members of the public to contact the police should they spot the escapees.
The TTPS, in a media release issued this afternoon said all necessary action will be taken to get to the bottom of the incident.
Meanwhile, workers at the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission were among those who were dismissed early by their respective employers today.
The move came amid heightened anxiety in the Port-of -Spain area, following the prison breakout earlier today.
Sick patients seeking treatment at the Port -of -Spain General Hospital meanwhile, will now be diverted to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and the San Fernando General Hospital.
CEO of the South West Regional Authority, Anil Gosine has since indicated that security will be beefed up at all medical institutions under its purview.
Speaking on the issue, Public Services Association President, Watson Duke in a brief statement to News Power Now following the incident, said this situation underscores the PSA’s stance that the Prison, being just one street away from a major hospital, is a recipe for disaster.
