Public Services Association President, Watson Duke, is condemning what he describes as a move by the management of the Sugar Welfare Workers and the San Fernando Magistrate’s Court to withhold salaries from its employees.
Mr. Duke, speaking with the media at the union’s Abercromby Street, Port- of -Spain Office said, under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, workers should be paid if they stay away from work due to safety hazards.
However, he said thirty-three Sugar Welfare Workers have not been paid for the month of July.
Mr. Duke claimed that threats of no -pay have also been made to employees of the San Fernando Magistrate’s Court.
The PSA President said these threats will not be taken lightly.
Duke added that an Occupational Doctor has been hired to investigate the relation between illnesses suffered by employees and the buildings they occupy.
