Winston 2 Finance Minister Winston Dookeran took the stand at the Commission of inquiry into the 1990 attempted coup today

During his testimony he defended the former Prime Minister ANR Robinson, who was painted in a negative light in the past and was blamed by some for pushing the country too far, hence being responsible for the insurrection

Mr Robinson was snubbed for the country’s relationship with the IMF at the time, but Mr Dookeran said before the attempted coup the country was starting to turn around, after inheriting an almost empty treasury from the PNM government

He said the attempted coup just overturned the country’s economic applecart
