The Ministry of Works and Transport is assuring the public that all its social and development projects are carried out in the interest of the environment.

In a media release issued yesterday, the Ministry said it took note of statements of the environmental group Fishermen and Friends of the Sea contained in a letter to the editor on the proposed Highway Development from Cumuto to Manzanilla.

It noted that the Ministry and its agents always work within the parameters of the law and abide by the directions of the Court in this matter.

It added that the Ministry has always been transparent and accountable in its tendering process.

The Ministry said it has always indicated a readiness and willingness to work with relevant non-governmental organizations to ensure that all legitimate issues of stakeholders are addressed.

The approach, the statement pointed out is always one of seeking to gain consensus after meaningful dialogue.

The Ministry also thanked all the residents who attended the recent interactive session held at the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation, to discuss the benefits to be derived from the project at hand.
