A crisis of Leadership. This is how the Trinidad and Tobago Council of Evangelical Churches labels the current situation in Trinidad and Tobago. In a statement issued to the media today, the group adds its voice in criticizing the statements made recently by Tobago East Member of Parliament, Vernella Alleyne – Toppin, against Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Rowley.
The Evangelical group says it has been their observation that some members of parliament have displayed less than appropriate behavior, adding that this has become progressively dreadful .
Arguing that parliamentary privileges should not be used conveniently as a forum for slander, embarrassment and the pursuit of personal agendas, the group says it condemns the behavior of Mrs. Vernella Alleyne Toppin who in their opinion assassinated the character of the Opposition Leader.
The Evangelical group is today calling on this country’s leaders to not only show competence but also character, noting that the country’s children are our greatest losers when such behavior is portrayed.
